The production of Ice Music is a massive undertaking involving an ever-evolving team of ice carvers, artists, volunteers, lighting crews, and sound engineers. From harvesting ice from local lakes to sculpting it into instruments and performing live on stage, a myriad of skills and effort are required to put on the show.

The gallery below offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the wonderful faces and characters who make Ice Music, the challenging winter conditions they’ve all endured, and some of the outstanding locations and venues where our distinctive music has resonated.

Fun fact: naturally formed lake ice has an incredibly wide frequency range and reverberates exceptionally well, especially in temperatures below -12ºC. We recorded the reverberation from one tap of the Ice Bass drum featured here, and it lasted over 15 seconds!
