Amazing Trio: Sissel Vera Pettersen, Terje Isungset & Paninnguaq Jensen.

Sissel Vera Pettersen, Terje Isungset and Paninnguaq Jensen performed an incredible ice music concert on Friday night. The temperature was -26ºC with no wind, creating the perfect conditions for the delicate sounds of ice.

Terje expertly maintained the tempo with his ice percussion skills while Sissel and Paninnguaq’s vocals soared. Our audience, seated both inside and outside, was captivated by the Ilulissat’s sonic winter spectacle. After enduring days of battling extreme wind chill and deep cold, including a recorded -62ºC during Thursday night’s storm, we were thrilled to deliver a wonderful 45-minute concert.

Today’s weather conditions are ideal for Ice Music. The sun shines brightly and there’s no wind. If you haven’t bought tickets yet, head over to our Programme page or purchase them in person at the IceFjord Centre.

We have two concerts:

- 15:00: A family concert featuring ice science and ice music.
- 23:00: A midnight concert with the fantastic Greenlandic Miké Thomsen playing an ice guitar.

Also, you’ll find Sissel Vera Pettersen on ice percussion and vocals, Terje Isungset playing ice drums, ice percussion and an ice horn, and special guest Maali Hermansen, the great Greenlandic singer.

Preparing Ice Music instruments offers some delightful surprises. The ice is sourced from a nearby lake, which contains a rich variety of plant life. For instance, while crafting the Ice Bass Drum (pictured in this post), the chainsaw accidentally cut through a plant, giving it a spider-like or otherworldly appearance reminiscent of the film Arrival.

This year’s festival is experiencing low temperatures. For the most accurate weather readings, please visit ASIAQ’s weather page vejr.asiaq.gl/#/map.

We’ve decided to open the Icefjord Centre this year. This allows our audience to wear multiple layers outside, in front of the stage or inside the building to enjoy the performances through warm glass. Rest assured, sound will be available inside, ensuring a comfortable listening experience. These options will be available for all performances this year.
